Alexandra & Matt’s Rooftop Wedding: Bold Blooms, Big Views, and Beautiful Energy
Some weddings are memorable because of the setting. Some, because of the flowers. And then there are weddings like Alexandra and Matt’s—where everything comes together in the most unexpected, heartfelt, and breathtaking way.
From the moment we met, Alexandra and Matt gave me complete creative freedom for their ceremony florals. No restrictions, no Pinterest boards—just trust. That kind of creative space is rare, and I knew I wanted to create something truly special for them.
The ceremony took place on a rooftop, with a stunning view of the water as the backdrop. But what we didn’t anticipate was the extreme summer heat. With no shade and the sun beaming directly on us, we were all feeling it—but especially the flowers. We had to spray them every 10 minutes just to keep them from wilting, especially the hydrangeas (any florist will tell you: hydrangeas need water like it’s their full-time job).
We began by setting up the arch, which we covered entirely with layers of greenery—different shapes, different textures, and different tones. Honestly, even before we added a single flower, the structure looked magical. I wish I had a photo of it at that stage.
But then came the boldest part: the flowers. As someone who’s studied colour theory, we’re often taught to stick to analogue colour schemes—shades that sit beside each other on the colour wheel. This time, I threw that rule out the window. I reached for contrast and drama, mixing blues, purples, burgundy, creams, and a wild variety of greens. It was moody, airy, layered, and full of depth. And the result? Absolutely breathtaking. It became one of my all-time favourite arches we’ve ever designed.
The bridesmaids wore soft lavender dresses, which tied into the floral palette perfectly, picking up on the lilac and violet tones. Alexandra wore a gorgeous, fitted gown that hugged her figure like it was made just for her (and it probably was!). Her calm confidence and elegance were beautifully balanced by Matt’s relaxed, fun vibe—he wore just pants, a crisp shirt, and suspenders. No jacket. No fuss. Just cool, easy love.
What made this wedding unforgettable wasn’t just the flowers or the view. It was the energy. Alexandra and Matt radiated joy and ease. Their love was warm and effortless, and that feeling carried through every moment of their day.
We were sunburnt, sticky, and spritzing hydrangeas like our lives depended on it—but I’d do it all over again in a heartbeat.
Bridal Bouquet
Alexander's Bouquet Was One-of-a-Kind
Alexander wanted a truly unique, cascading bouquet—something dramatic, personal, and unforgettable. The mechanics alone took nearly five hours to build by hand. We started by tying wire together to create a custom structure, then wrapped each piece individually with over 20 strands of raffia to form a natural, textural base.
Every bloom was treated carefully to prevent wilting, and using a very special technique I learned from @francoisweeks, I glued each flower onto the base one by one. It was slow, intricate work—but so worth it.
The final bouquet? A sculptural piece of floral art—unexpected, wild, and completely Alexander.
